And one former cop who's having a hard time wrapping his head around the whole story leading to the manslaughter charge is Darrell Tutsi Usher. He came up under Jemmott in the Dragon Unit and then the SPU in Belize City. They were a feared and highly efficient unit shaking up the city in the early 2000's. He says Jemmott taught him all about gun safety and kept a strict discipline:

"To the all accounts that I heard from it, it's not adding up, especially to the last account when they say they were playing with the gun and the gun gone off and shot him in his head back. Moreover, when it comes to safety, and see how he stands with safety - worse, he wouldn't give someone a gun and then turn his back to the person. To me only a crazy person would do something like that, give someone a loaded gun and then turn your back to the person."

"But maybe he had a few drinks, maybe it was the end of a long day, it could have been a man woman situation where you are in another level of relaxation."

"But even so, at the end of the day the discipline that Jemmott has there is no way Jemmott would have been playing with a firearm. I have seen instances whereby we have gone on recreation trips, dragon trips and so, whereby a lot of drinking happened and Jemmott was one of the few persons who is allowed to still carry his firearm. despite the drinking, the recreation and whatever - the person is a discipline person."
"In easter he was having a barbeque and I went to his house and he was telling me about a new thing that he bought for his 9mm, he bought a housing to put in the 9mm - make the gun turned into a rifle. However, he went in to show me, but when he brought it out, first thing Jemmott did was took out the magazine, clear the gun, then he handed to me. So as I said it's something that comes naturally. Although I know about guns too, he still does the same thing with me, because that is the training that we got, so when people are out here speculating that how Jemmott and the lady was playing with the firearm and so, that really touch and hurt because then I, from experience know that Jemmott would never be playing with any gun. Moreover, if he would hand anyone any gun he would clear it and then hand them. He would never hand anyone a loaded gun, moreover turn his back to the person to get shot in his head back."
