Switching topics now... June 1st marks the start of the 2021 hurricane season and it promises to be an active one. If it's anything like last year, well, you'd better start preparing from now. The predictions so far, according to the National Meteorological Service, are that there will be 6 to 10 hurricanes, with 3 to 6 of them being category 3 or higher.
For now, things are calmer than they were this time last year, when two there were already two named storms by this time. However, speaking via Zoom today, Chief MET Officer, Ronald Gordon, warned Belizeans not to let their guard down.
A press release from the MET office indicated that there will be no El Niño this year. Gordon explained what this meant for the hurricane season.
