Police in the north raided a home in the Buena Vista village around 6:30 this morning. They searched the house and found one 12-gauge single action shotgun with twenty five 12 gauge live cartridges, six cartons of Maxwell cigarettes, one carton of Deal cigarettes, five cartons of Esse Change cigarettes, and a single box of Time cigarettes.
At home at the time were 47-year-old Avalos Venegas and 34-year-old Marta Garcia Amaya, both naturalized Belizeans. They were charged with kept firearm without a gun license and kept ammunition without a gun license. After being processed for those offenses, they will then be taken to the Customs Department for the various contraband cartons of cigarettes.
Another man, 35-year-old Michael David Contreras, who is a licensed firearm holder, was also arrested and charged for the offense of allowing firearm to be used by another person in connection with an illegal act.
