At the beginning of the month, we told you about the legal troubles in which 33-year-old Ramiro De La Rosa landed himself. He's the father from Duck Run 2 in the Cayo District who took the ill-advised decision to plead guilty to firearms charges. Those closest to him say that he did this so that his wife could be freed of the same charge and return as a caregiver to their 2 young children.

After Cayo residents learned about his plight, they started to agitate for justice on his behalf because the best information suggests that he has never come in conflict with the law before. Also, the weapon police found in his family's house was licensed to his recently deceased father, who passed away from the COVID virus. The license for the weapon is said to last all the way up until the end of October.

Attorney OJ Elrington has since stepped up to represent Ramiro pro-bono. Elrington is trying to appeal the conviction and the 3-year prison sentence that the presiding magistrate handed Ramiro on his arraignment date. Today, Elrington spoke to us via Zoom teleconference., He said that he was able to convince the Chief Magistrate to grant Ramiro a stay of execution and bail until his appeal case is heard in the Supreme Court:

Whenever the appeal takes place, we'll be there to tell you how it goes.
