And while Wagner's family holds out hope that he is found alive, two families in Belize City are grieving their loved ones after both were lost to gun violence over the weekend.

Just before 9 last night, the first victim, 24-year-old Gary Young was murdered at the corner of Kraal Road and Haynes Street, and his alleged shooter was also killed when someone returned fire.

But those closest to 32-year-old Matthew Moore tell us that he wasn't the one who pulled the trigger first. However, the police's investigation is saying differently.

Courtney Menzies spoke with both families and has this story.

Two men fatally shot within minutes of each other - in the same neighborhood, and both families are shocked since they say their loved one was not involved in gang activity.

The first victim, 24-year-old Gary Young, was at family friend's home, only a stone's throw from his own, when gunfire rained upon the group he was with. He was shot several times and died shortly after reaching the hospital.

His family held tears back as they tried to understand what motive someone would have for killing him.

Voice of: Kendra Young, Sister
"He always keep to himself, he is always by himself, he always is home, he will play his card with all of us, we got our back and forth with the card, that's what I miss about him, always railing up, that's what I miss about."

"When I hear was out there, I was like, what is he doing out there? He isn't in any gang anything. And even if you are in gang or not, they still see that you're in there, so it doesn't make any sense you say or not say. But he always is at home, you could pass here a million times and you will find him right here."

Courtney Menzies:
"Do you think this was a wrong place at the wrong time thing?"

Kendra Young, Sister
"It was his family he was at, his family friends, enjoy their birthday together, how could he be at the wrong place?"

And after Young was shot, someone in the yard reportedly returned fire, hitting the second victim, 32-year-old Matthew Moore, whom the police refer to as "Matthew Guy." And his family says that Moore had changed his life after doing a stint in prison. His father could only speculate what led to his son's demise since he said Moore was never involved with gangs.

Voice of: Mervin Moore, Father
"That's a fright because I didn't expect, what did he do so for them to do him like that? I wouldn't know because he was lately released from where he was and look like it's a thing of grievance because some people around the area they hold malice out of the blue. Lots of gang member, you know that kind of way. I don't know anything about gang, but I figure it's something like that. They probably don't like him due to how he came out and just stay with his family around here."

Courtney Menzies:
"But you never thought something like this would come to your doorstep."

Mervin Moore, Father
"Never, never, never, poor Matthew. (Crying) I lost my older one and I didn't expect that they would take another so easy and he doesn't do anything. And when he do, he went to jail, and he come out, and he was doing his little construction work."

"My sight gone from me, and when he did work, he would come around and say see dad, see mom. He work, he hustle, because sometimes he come and mix cement and so with people and help them do thing. He wasn't a person who thief, police never came around to try and take him for theft and that kind of talks."

Moore's time in jail was because he was accused of murder another man on Kraal Road. Moore was released on bail in 2018.

But while his family and friends don't believe he was involved in Young's murder, the police have a different account.

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Communications Officer
"We understand that Mr Young was in a yard with persons socializing when Matthew Guy arrived at that place along with another person and opened fire on the crowd. Unfortunately Mr Young got hit and rode off in the vicinity of Penn Road where he collapsed and was later transported to Karl Heusner. Whilst Guy was fleeing the scene, someone from in that ground returned fire and caught Mr Guy who was also rushed to the KHMH and succumbed to his injury."

"It's a murder and a loss of life investigation. One, the shooter that attacked Mr Gary Young, he was just unfortunate that one of the friends of young returned fire, so in all essence, he was the orchestrator that initiated the crime, one. Had Mr Matthew Guy survived, he probably would have been charged for murder but like I said, it's there and then, he was not allowed to flee the scene and with that return fire from someone in that yard where Mr Young died, we have classed it as a loss of life investigation."

"At the end of our investigation, we will be guided by the DPP office as to what, if any charges would be filed against the person or persons that returned fire."

Moore had no children, and had just celebrated his birthday on the 7th of this month, meanwhile Young would have been celebrating his on Thursday. Young had one 7-year-old son.
