And one of the recent victims of what looks like gang violence was only 14 years old. 14-year-old Kwame Williams, a resident of Dangriga Town was shot dead on Thursday night in Dangriga Town.

The teenager was walking to the home of his grandfather, musical legend Bredda David Obi - when a gunman on a bicycle cornered him and ruthlessly gunned him down.

but, why was he targeted? Was the teen part of a gang?

Police say that so far the evidence does not support that:

Supt. Alejandro Cowo - OC, CIB Belize City
"On Thursday night, just after 9 p.m., a minor by the name of Kwamie Williams was walking on Gumagarugu Street after he had a family dispute with his stepfather. He decided to spend the rest of the night with his grandfather who does not live far from where he resides with his stepfather. Whilst he was walking, he was approached by someone who fired several shots in his direction, causing his death. So far, police have one person in custody, and the investigation is going very well. Probably, there will be some charges later on this week."

Reporter
"Is there any explanation as to why this minor was targeted?"

Supt. Alejandro Cowo
"Well, I've spoken with the investigators, and they are telling me that so far, they have gathered that this minor has nothing to do with any of the rivalries that are occurring between gangs in Dangriga. It is an incident of probably mistaken identity or something else, but he does not have anything to do with those shootings previously in that area there."

As you heard, the police report insists that Williams had a prior dispute with his stepfather before leaving to go spend the night with his grandfather. The victim's mother has already asserted that there was no confrontation between her husband and her son.
