Tonight, a 24 year old has been charged for the murder of 15 year old Dwayne Gabourel. But, electrician DANE GILLETT did not go before a judge today - and that's because he has COVID 19. So, he won't be arraigned until he is determined to be COVID free - probably another two weeks.
In the meantime, he was today isolated in a police detention cell and this evening he was sent to thew Belize Central Prison on a committal warrant where he will be isolated. Gillett is asymptomatic.
And while he has been charged, for police this is only the start of the prosecution. They now have to gather evidence to prove that he was the one who pulled the trigger as seen on a security camera.
Today, the Commissioner of police told the media that they will be seeking the help of the FBI to enhance that surveillance video:

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police.
"We are still investigating. We have reached the stage where we have enough to charge. But, while we have the matter before the court there are certain things we still need to do, including requesting assistance from the FBI, through the US Embassy, to enhance certain video footages for us and so that is being done as well, but at this time we have enough to charge and we will build the case stronger as we go along."
We'll be at the court when Gillett is arraigned.
Dwayne Gabourel was killed last week Saturday in what is believed to be a case of mistaken identity - because the shooter came from behind and the teenaged student resembles an older person from the neighbourhood who is an active target.
The dispute that led to the murder is between the the Jungle Bloods Gang and the Majestic Alley and Kelly Street Crip Gangs. This war has been raging for decades - and since 2011 three children have been killed.
