And if you're wondering when the 7pm curfew will end, well, the last day according to the previous SI is this Sunday. But, of course, the government might very well extend it. Over the past two weeks, there have been complaints about people having to rush from work to home, and people missing buses. There is also less time in the evenings to do errands, which leads to the bottleneck crowding on Saturday. But if you find yourself still on the street at 7:01, you shouldn't fret just yet. The ComPol says that cops should use discretion and not be ticket-happy. He gave examples of times when the police allowed a curfew break.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Last night, a lady had messaged me around 6:30 saying that she needs to take her husband to work at nine p.m. last night. I did not see her message until after ten last night and so I messaged her and asked her if she was able to get through and so she said to me, yes she took her husband to work around nine. The police stopped her at the checkpoint, they asked her where she was going and she explained to them that she was taking her husband to work and the police allowed her to go through. So those are things that I was happy to hear because I wouldn't want that her husband would lose his job because of her not being able to take him to work. So once officers use their discretion in those circumstances, I am very, very happy for that. Trying to demonstrate humanity in what we do, there are a number of persons who have their elderly parents living away from them and they are ones who may cook for them and so on a Sunday we would allow them to take food to their elderly's, all again to ensure that we don't leave no one starving. It would be a sin for the police to tell you you cannot take food to your elderly parents who live away from you. In instances like those we have to use our discretion and allow people to go through."
