And, in news of the weekend's other murder in the city...

Tonight, 30-year-old Placencia resident Ian Westby is dead, killed in Belize City while on a visit to his Uncle.

It happened at the corner of Peter Seco Street and Tranquil Lane, at about 11:40 am on Sunday morning.

Westby was hanging out with his uncle playing dominoes when a man came to his gate looking for him. Westby went willingly, in fact, they were seen walking together. But 10 minutes later Westby was found dead in the passenger seat of his Kia Soul.

We heard more at this morning's press briefing from ASP Fitzroy Yearwood.

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Communications Officer
"CIB Precinct two visited Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where they saw the lifeless body of Ian Westby, investigators gathered that on Sunday the 17th sometime around 10 A.m. Westby was at a car wash with another relative when he was approached by a friend of his apparently, they walked away and a few minutes later Westby's Uncle was alerted by someone that saw him slouch in the driver's seat with an apparent gunshot injury. Westby was rushed to the Karl Heusner where he succumbed to his injuries, no."

"Well to be honest with you this person is a person of interest that was last seen with him. We believe that he may have known his assailant."

Cherisse Halsall:
"Sir is there any information to suggest that this murder is the result of a drug deal gone bad?"

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Communications Officer
"Well, as I said from our professional standpoint for us to allege something like that it wouldn't be here nor there, we know that hopefully investigators can get some information, useful information from the person that he was last seen with then we'd be able to better answer that question, no."

"He was there at his Uncle's business place. I am from Belize City and I visit several districts in this country because I have relatives in this and every district. It would be unfortunate if I'm visiting one of my relatives and something would take place. We know that in this society, Belize especially, people always have a lot of allegations and they bring up all sorts of scenario when life is lost, but I wouldn't want to discredit the Uncle's report, he said that his nephew was visiting him and it is allowed in this country for you to visit your relatives no matter where you come from."

Police believe a wet drop in the south could somehow be connected to this murder.
