A man and his girlfriend are recovering in the hospital after they were allegedly hit head on by a drunk driver last night on the Belize Corozal Road.
26-year-old Jason Kelly was on his motorcycle with 29-year-old Amy Juarez, riding pillion and as they traveled towards Chan Pine Ridge Village. That's when a black Kia going in the opposite direction collided into them.
Surveillance footage shows exactly when the impact occurred, which led to fractured femurs for both Kelly and Juarez. Kelly complained of additional chest pain and was transported to the KHMH while Juarez received treatment in Orange Walk.
According to Juarez's Facebook post, she and Kelly were on their way home after picking up food around 10:40pm when the accident occurred. She goes one to say that both of them are, quote, "in really bad condition and we both will go into surgery." End quote. She emphasizes that Kelly is critical and asks for prayers from the public.
The driver of the vehicle, 28-year-old Margarita Leiva, an employee of ASR, gave a urine sample to the police. Police say she appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
