And from San Pedro Town, to San Antonio Rio Hondo on the northwestern edge of the Orange Walk District….the weekend's other murder happened in that village last night at 8:40.

And it is a case where two nephews, Shamir and Enrique Teyul are accused of killing their uncle, Eugenio Teyul - but not just killing him, they beat him to to death and then ran across to Mexico.

They are on the run tonight - and police filled in the details:

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood - Communications Officer

"I know that police went to an area in San Antonio village, near the Rio Hondo. This is in Orange Walk, of course, where they had begun their investigation. Let me go forward first to tell you that Eugenio Tuyul was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital, where a medical officer pronounced him dead on arrival, seeing him with severe swelling over his face and bleeding from his head. We received a report that he was socializing by the football field in San Antonio village, where he was attacked by two of his nephews in a red Mazda pickup. One of the nephews exited the pickup and kicked him somewhere in the face area, and thereafter, began beating him with a wheel spanner. The other nephew was in the passenger seat. And when he was assisted by members of the village, these two brothers took a run for the border, as we might say, where it is believed that they entered Mexican territory. We have since contacted all Mexican counterparts in trying to locate these two assailants. Our investigation is a murder investigation, and we are hoping that people in that community can assist the police in finding the two brothers and bring them to justice."

"Now, sir, the information I've seen on that particular incident suggests very violent behavior, from relatives, two brothers beating their uncle to death. Is there any sort of indication to the police what drove them to that extreme?"

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood
"I must use a phrase from a relative of mine this morning. We have a lot of angry people out there. Why they are and what we don't know. But for you to go to an extent to beat your own blood relative in that sort of fashion, it had to be that you had hidden hate or rage inside of you. This time of the year when most people are looking forward to celebrating the birth of Christ, for you to be so brutal against a relative, I don't believe there is any excuse that you can create for an act of this nature. So like I said, we at the police department, won't leave any stone unturned because it's just unexplainable."
