And while public officers will be seeing less money on their pay slips next year, this month, they'll be getting a Christmas bonus. We've been reporting on the rumors of a $100 bonus but neither the PSU nor the NTUCB presidents knew of it.
Last week, we told you about the $1.5 million that's earmarked for 14,000 thousand public officers - and that breaks down to roughly $100 each.
And today the PM all but confirmed it. He said that the government can't do much, but they're doing the best they can.
Courtney Menzies:
"Are public officers getting $100 bonus this Christmas?"
Hon. John Briceno, Prime Minister
"Yeah, we're working on that, and we wish we can do more but that's the best we can."
Courtney Menzies:
"But $100? That's the amount?"
Hon. John Briceno, Prime Minister
"I don't know how much it will work out to but we're trying our best to be able to assist them with something to help at least to go and buy Christmas ham or do something, it's not enough, nowhere close to enough, but we're doing the best we can."
