And now we turn briefly to a few reports of crimes that happened in the last 24-hour period.
19-year-old Leonard Julian Baltazar is recovering from gunshot injures he suffered last night in Dangriga Town. Police say that shortly before 10 last night, he was riding a scooter on St. Vincent Street when he was approached by 2 men on separate motorcycles. At this time, it is unknown why Baltazar was targeted, but according to police information, one of the men on motorcycles pulled out a firearm and shot him several times.
This morning, we caught up with Police Commissioner at an event in Belmopan, and we asked him for a few details on this incident:
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"We know that over the past few months we have seen an increase of gang violence in Dangriga Town and I just spoke to the OC and the regional commander today and told them that there needs to be more down to ensure that we quell the situation in Dangriga and I expect that by this eveing I will get some plan from them in terms of what they intend to do top address the gang problems in Dangriga so that the people of Dangriga can begin to feel a bit more safer within that municipality."

"You think you are going to need to make a trip down there, because I know that the thing is that over the time you've develop the confidence of the community, so they may want to see you down there to really have change made."
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"If it is that I need to go down and meet the community and give them that re-assurance that we are doing what we can to address the issue, then I certainly will do so sometime next week."
