This morning, high-level members of the government, the judiciary, the military, and the police department gathered on the Belmopan compound of the Police Training Academy. They were there to celebrate the passing out of Recruit Squad # 95. These were the 220 police hopefuls who made it to the final stage after being selected from an initial 425, who were shortlisted from over 5,000 Belizeans who initially applied.

And, according to the Police Commissioner, these 220 new constables are among the most qualified professionals to ever pass out from the Police Training Academy. That's because they met the educational requirements and they were rigorously screened to ensure that only the best made it to the end.

7News attended the passing out ceremony, and here's an excerpt of the comments made by the keynote speakers:

According to the Commissioner, the previous recruit squad #94 was also up to a very high standard because former Police Minister Michael Peyrefitte also worked diligently to reduce the political influence from his ministerial colleagues on the applicants who made it to the shortlist.
