For over a year, Dr Marvin Manzanero - who was once at the helm of the ship steering Belize through the pandemic - has been in limbo - with his career in capricious hands. And after 12 months of waiting and watching, Dr Manza has finally been let go.
Back in October, the government revealed its plans to abolish the post of Director of Health Services and install two new posts: Director of Public Health and Wellness and Director of Hospital Services.
But even though those bills went through the House of Representatives, they still needed to go through a process to get rid of the DHS - who holds the most important technical position in the ministry. But, supposedly, the two new posts made the DHS redundant - while creating two new posts to do the job.
At that point the writing on the wall was clear, but today it became real when Dr Manzanero was given his walking papers - ending a public service career that spanned over 15 years.
Manzanero has refrained from commenting at this time - but we will keep following this story.
