And a police officer was also killed over the weekend - this time in a traffic accident. It happened on Friday evening as 36-year-old Corporal Solomon Ical was on his way home to Valley of Peace. When he got to the roundabout at the Belmopan junction, he crashed his motorcycle, and died on the spot. The communications officer at the police department, ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, told us more.
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Communications Director, Belize Police Department
"Police observed a blue motorcycle, believed to be his. Initial investigations revealed that he was driving that cycle heading towards Valley of Peace when he collided into a pillar, a concrete pillar that caused his fatal injuries."

"Is it known that some type of sample had been taken to see if he was under the influence?"
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood
"The officers have secured blood and urine samples and a toxicology report is what we are waiting for to determine whether or not alcohol may have contributed to this accident. I cannot say because that wasn't listed in the information that was sent to me."
And Ical's common-law wife said she had just gotten home from work, waiting for him to arrive, when she got the dreaded call. Our colleagues at Plus TV spoke with her.
Elicia Cucul, Common-law-wife

"I was sitting in my sofa and I received a call from one of my friends asking me if I heard the news already, then I told her no, and she said I think it's your husband that passed away. I told her I couldn't believe it, so I got up and went to call my father in law and told him about it, then I think he called one of his sons and ask him if it's one of his brother and then he said yes. It was really heartbroken for me, because he called me around 7:20 and told me that he is heading home, so I was waiting for him, because he always calls me before he left Belmopan to come home, but I never knew that I would not see him again. He is a loving and kind person, as anything you ask of him, he is willing to do, willing to help anybody. He will be missed from all of his family."
