The US Army is currently hosting a major regional conference in Belize. It's called the Central American Security Conference - CENTSEC for short - and it's being held here for the first time since 2011.

This year it is led by SOUTHCOM Commander General Laura Richardson, a four- star general in the U.S. Army. - who is the first woman to head Southcom. On the Belize side, it is headed by BDF Commander Brigadier General Azariel Loria.

Participating countries include Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemalan, Honduras, Panama, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico. All told, the meeting includes high-level defense and security leaders from the United States, Central America, and other Western Hemisphere countries under the theme "Collaborative Responses to Regional Security and Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Relief Challenges."

The meeting is under strict COVID guidelines, so the press was not invited.
