But, police have a lot more than just murders to deal with. Yesterday morning, an alarming message went up on Facebook where an elderly woman was claiming that she and her family of 6, including three sick persons, were locked up inside their yard with no way out. She alleged that it was because of a land dispute, and that it was her sister-in-law who had padlocked the gate.

Police were eventually called to the house where they had to break the lock on the gate, freeing the family. And today, our colleagues at CTV3 spoke to the woman who sent out the distress message, Erlinda Miller.

According to Miller, her mother-in-law built a home on the land and Miller and her husband moved in to assist her with transport to and from church. But the woman passed away and left a contract with Miller's husband, stating that the family can continue to live on the land as long as he was alive.

Well, he's still alive but Miller alleges that - for one reason or the other - his sisters are trying to force them off the land. She explained that she had gotten two eviction notices, but when they went to court, the Magistrate told them that, because of the contract, they had to go to the Supreme Court.

Miller thought the situation would work itself out through the courts, so she never expected that she would be locked up without food or water. Here's how she explained it in a voice only interview:

Miller believes that a religious conflict may be driving the dispute to extremes.
