For the first time since 2011, Belize is hosting the 2022 Central American Security Conference. The event runs from January 31st to February 2nd and will include high-level defense and security leaders from the United States, Central America, and other Western Hemisphere countries.
At the opening ceremonies today, Minister of Border Defense and National Security, Oscar Mira, spoke about some of the security issues faced, not just by Belize, but in the entire region.
The US delegation is being led by the SOUTHCOM Commander, four-star general General Laura Richardson. She spoke about their commitment to regional security and working with others in the region to achieve that.
The Belize delegation is headed by BDF Commander, Brigadier General Azarial Loria.
