As we told you last night - there was a fatal accident between on the Blue Creek Road San Lazaro and Trinidad villages in the Orange Walk District.
29 year old babysitter Veronica Quischan was killed when the vehicle she was a passenger in was caught in a 3 car pileup.
It happened when 75 year old Gouli Chen a business man of Orange Walk Town was driving a gold Isuzu Trooper Blue Creek Road going from OW and upon reaching by an intersection he made a left turn into a feeder road without first clearing traffic in the oncoming lane.
That's when a black Kia car driven by 23 year old Mario Barrera coming from the opposite direction hit the left front corner of the Trooper causing the car to flip several times and receive extensive damage. His passengers were 26 year old babysitter Veronica Quischan was flung out of the vehicle to her death. Her 8 month old baby was spared and survived with minor injury.
That major collision cause an oncoming Ford pickup to lose control, spin off the road and snap a lamppost as it tried to avoid the accident.
The driver of the Kia, Mario Barrera and the baby had non life threatening injuries - as did the driver of the Ford pikcup. The driver of the Trooper, Gouli Chen had no injuries.
Police charged the 75 year old this evening. He's been hit with a slew of charges, including (1) count of Manslaughter by Negligence, (1) count of Negligent Harm, (1) count of Drove motor vehicle without due care and attention and (1) count of Failed to give way when changing direction.
