And while that cop was knocked out cold in Placencia things were, unfortunately, heating up in Belize City.
Over the weekend two structures on Antelope street went up in flames in what fire Station Supervisor Kenneth Mortis today called a connected incident. Here's what he told the press about those fires today.
Kenneth Mortis, Station Supervisor
"That fire is basically I will call it two in one. We started off over on Antelope street extension which for some reason has been a hot spot for fire lately that one started just before midnight whereby on our arrival we observed two structures in a yard one being the occupant of Alfredo David unfortunately for Mr David his entire house was destroyed by the fire. The neighbouring structure in the same yard was the occupant of one Benito Fernandez, fortunately for him, his damage was much more minimal, he sustained fire damage to the exterior siding which consumed some of the wiring and a portion of the roof. Fortunately for him, he still has a home to go into that fire was as a result of an illegal connection and it then spread to Mr. Fernandez's structure."
But Mortis wasn't done there, he went on to tell the press that the occupants of the homes weren't exactly cooperating with the firefighters because the cause of this particular blaze was an illegal one.

Kenneth Mortis, Station Supervisor
"Stanley Bernardez lost his house unfortunately when we tried to gather information from him on that night of the fire they weren't forthcoming. They are knowledgeable of the fact that they are in the act of an illegal current. They gave our firefighters a hard time in trying to use and gather information. They weren't fully cooperating with us. So, eventually, we learned who was the occupant, Stanley Bernardez and his family. Again that is another cause of electrical abuse. That is something that seriously needs to be addressed with the electrical company in terms of residents vs the electric company. We can only do so much, we can only try our best to educate these people about the side effects of trying to steal these current to try to save a couple of dollars here and there. The side effects of trying to steal these current to save a couple dollars here and there but the long -term or the shortfall of it is you will eventually lose your house and your property."
No human lives were lost in the incident but today the body of at least one dog could be seen among the rubble.
