The prime minister departed the country yesterday en route to Barbados for meetings with US officials that will commence tomorrow. He will be attending the meetings in his capacity as CARICOM Chair. He is expected to return to Belize on Friday. In his absence, the DPM, Cordel Hyde will act as Prime Minister.

And, also acting as Chair of CARICOM, in May, PM Briceño will co-host the Second Global COVID-19 Summit along with the US as first COVID Summit Chair; Germany, holding the G7 Presidency; Indonesia, holding the G20 Presidency; and Senegal as African Union Chair.

A release says the summit will have three main themes: Vaccinate the World, Save Lives Now, and Build Better Health Security.

It adds quote, "The objectives of the summit are to redouble collective efforts to end the acute phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, and to prepare for future variants, pandemics, and other health threats."
