Last night we told you about a series of easter weekend fires that devastated and, in some cases, destroyed the homes of several unfortunate residents.
But there was another weekend fire, this one according to station supervisor Kenneth Mortis, started when a Kia Sorrento was intentionally set on fire.
Kenneth Mortis, Station Supervisor
"We were alerted of one over on riverside on the opposite side of town. whereby on our arrival we saw an elevated zinc structure. We know that that building at the moment wasn't occupied. Just beneath that house, a 2005 Kia Sorrento was parked. Our investigation of that fire thanks to teamwork with the police department concluded that the fire was a malicious act. Somebody definitely set that fire ablaze there were two portions of the fire to support the cause. The perpetrator or perpetrators made sure to ensure that the job was accomplished. We had a fire that started in the vehicle and then set the second fire in the - of the building where a bedroom was located. So far the occupant of that structure hasn't been forthcoming as yet so again I cannot really tell you exactly who owned the building, however, i'll take you down memory lane just. the week prior to whereby an attempted fire was set on that same establishment."
Nothing was salvaged and according to Mortis the entire structure was, quote: "totally gutted."
And in an update on the fire that occurred in the Antelope Extension area, station supervisor Mortis sent a note to the media today to clarify that fire victim Benito Bernardez was the only one fo his neighs who DID have a LEGAL electrical connection.
