And switching now to crime news Coast Guardsman, 23-year-old Shakeem Richards, is behind bars tonight after he was arraigned on 2 counts of robbery.

The incident in question took place on Thursday, July 9th when Richards is alleged to have armed himself with a firearm and robbed the Puma gas station at the corner of Fabers Road and the George Price highway of $551.00 in cash. He is also alleged to have robbed a woman of her cell phone while holding her at gunpoint and to have been the driver of the alleged getaway car.

When we asked ASP Fitzroy Yearwood about it this morning all he could say is that Richards was on his way to court:

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Communications Officer
"I know that Shakeem Richards, a 23-year-old coast guard, was arrested and charged by police for being a getaway driver in the robbery that took place at the PUMA gas station at the corner of Faber's Road and the George price highway. He was charged for his involvement and should be arraigned sometime today."

Richards who was represented by attorney Ian Gray pleaded not guilty to both counts. Still, Magistrate Khiana Gordon informed him that due to the nature of his offences she was not able to offer him bail.

He does, however, retain the right to apply for Supreme Court bail which he intends to do as early as Friday.

We reached out to Richard's Commandant rear Admiral Elton Bennett for comment but he told us only that Richards is currently facing an internal disciplinary tribunal.
