Turning back to Belize City, 28-year-old Deon Jones, a resident of an area called Rowland's Alley in Belize City, is at home recovering from stab wounds he suffered in a fight with neighbors.
Persistent reports to 7News are that his assailants told police that at around 11 p.m. on Saturday, he reportedly came into the alley and behaved although he was intoxicated. They say that he began throwing insults and pint bottles at them, which led to a fight. Jones was stabbed multiple times during the scuffle and had to receive medical treatment.
We have spoken to Jones and his family members, who say that the allegations made by his aggressors were all lies or embellishments. First, however, here's what ASP Fitzroy Yearwood had to say when we asked about this case at this morning's press briefing:
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood - Communications Officer, BPD
"I know I saw something about that. I think it was Roland's Alley. He went to that area and was hurling bottles at residents at #3 Roland's Alley where the residents of that house came out, and a fight ensued between him and a few of the residents where he received stab wound wounds and was transported to the KHMH. We haven't made any arrests in that incident yet because of course you know, it was him against the world in a sense. If I reside at #3 Roland's alley and one of us that resides there is accused of a crime, based on someone that launched an attack on us, the cooperation is almost minimal coming from that residence right now. So, our investigators have a difficult task in establishing who actually inflicted the stab wound on him."

"Since he was the one who allegedly initiated this if police identified who stab him, would that person be able to claim self-defense?"

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood
"Well, We would have to seek the advice of our colleagues at the DPP's Office. But we know that the attack on him wouldn't be justified as a reaction to the initial hurling of bottles upon your residence. But like I said when we make detention then we would know which direction we will go when it comes to charges."
This morning, we spoke with Deon Jones and his mother, and they declined an interview. However, they are aggrieved by weekend Facebook postings from other media houses. Jones was particularly offended because he insists that his attackers sought to discredit him as the aggressor, and he asserts that he most certainly was not. He also criticized those media houses that posted the preliminary report about his stabbing on their Facebook pages. He says that the media amplified the "lies" told about him.
