A man who was wanted for murder, yesterday took to the airwaves to say he was being falsely accused. With tears in his eyes, Michael Meighan said that police placing his image on a poster and saying that he was wanted for murder had destroyed his life. Meighan said he was a working man, lawfully going about his business as a messenger when police caught him on security camera - in a Sport Council vehicle near a murder scene.

Meighan claimed total innocence, but, today, the Commissioner of Police said they have reasonable suspicion against him:

Reporter
"Mr. Meighan handed himself over yesterday to police. He says he is a messenger and so he goes around the city and he is confident he had nothing to do with Darren Banks murder. Has he been charged?"

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Then why did he not show up to work the next day after the shooting? If he was so innocent, why did he not show up to work the next day after the shooting? These are the things yo know. These young men go and find attorneys, line them up and come and say to the police what they want the police to hear. But we are no fools. We have video footages that showed that vehicle near the murder scene. We have video footages that shows after the murder took place, the vehicle race down from there and went over a bridge and went to the Roger's Stadium. If he was so innocent, police went to look for him the next day at his workplace; he was a no-show."

Reporter
"But does that video footage show him inside the vehicle?"

Chester Williams
"It certainly did. And it showed also at the sports council that he was the one who signed out for the vehicle; he was the one in the vehicle."

Jules Vasquez
"We know that this same Michael Meighan was the victim of a crime at the BTL roundabout where he was attacked by persons in a robbery, a very dramatic robbery in the street. Is that something that police are looking at in relation to this murder, because of who might have allegedly pull off that crime?"

Chester Williams
"Certainly, its something we need to look at, because yes just months ago, he was the victim of a robbery in the vicinity of the Marion Jones Stadium. We are not certain as to who the persons were who did that robbery because I think in his statement, he had mentioned then that he did not know who the persons were."

Jules Vasquez
"So you anticipate that Michael Meighan may indeed face charges for the murder of Darren Banks?"

Chester Williams
"Well it is something that the police is looking at. If it is that we can tie him to the murder with evidence, then certainly yes. If we cannot do so, then we will not be able to levy charges against him."

So far, Michael Meighan has not been charged.
