Mieghan's attorney, Norman Rodriguez, is also appearing for Kishane Williams - a man who was detained under the state of emergency in the Martin's area. Though, persons detained under an SOE don't have access to the courts as a normal detainee would, his attorney says police detained his client without even a modicum of due process:

Norman Rodriguez, Williams' Attorney
"We should be informed within 24 hours of the reason for detention. He had received no acknowledgement form. You should be charged within 48 hours or be released or be given bail or release somehow. That has not been done. That is a constitutional breach and there is recourse for that."

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"I am wondering if I should comment. You know, you wonder how we have so much shooting in Belize City and everybody is innocent, nobody is gang member. As you detain somebody, they are not a gang member, they are innocent. So who is it shooting? is it law abiding citizens like me and you?"
