And while he awaits sentence, another man will spend serious time for raping a child.

Salvadoran Bairo Gomez was today convicted of raping 5 year-old child and was slapped with the minimum mandatory sentence of 15 years in jail.

The incident occurred on October 15, 2018 on an island, and Gomez was seen as a flight risk, so he was remanded.

He pleaded guilty to the offense on Wednesday, June 29, sparing his young victim from having to testify against him and relive the horrific ordeal.

On July 12, 2022, Justice Lamb heard mitigation pleas on behalf of Gomez from his attorney, Leeroy Banner as well as a sentencing guidelines from the Crown Counsel, Romey Wade to help her in determining an appropriate sentence for the crime he committed against such a young child at the tender age of 5.

At that time, Gomez threw himself on the mercy of the court and begged for leniency, apologizing for his action and telling the court how sorry he was for what he had done.

He got the mandatory minimum less his almost four years on remand from Justice Susan Lamb.
