The Ministry of Health has received a food safety complaint. It came early this morning from a man who said his morning tacos had been compromised by cotton.
Now, we've all heard of the toilet paper tacos, the very spectre of which may have briefly curbed the nation's appetite for the savoury treat last year. But, the evidence was, at best, anecdotal and, at worst, purely mythical. We say that because - no matter how hard this newsroom and the Ministry of Health tried, we were never able to actually find those TP Tacos.
But those padded tacos may have just made a comeback. Cherisse Halsall spoke to one Belize City man who says he has the proof.

It's the urban legend that was put far into the nation's bellies last October and now….This man claims to have found the toilet paper, well….. cotton tacos.
And he says he got it from one of the more popular spots in town.
Derek Thompson, Says he found cotton Tacos

"Well, while eating the tacos somehow it didn't taste like chicken and then so I decided to look at it when I bit it I looked at it and it looked white. So then I decided to open it and when I opened it I saw the fur from the cotton. So I could tell you that that wasn't chicken."
And if these tacos were indeed "augmentado con algodon" they're exactly what we went looking for last year when all we found were vendors who were astounded at such a devious stretch yuh Dalla tactic

"I went to another location and I purchased another set of tacos when I purchased the other set of tacos I could tell that, that is totally different from the one that I purchased at that first location so from there I called health authorities and they asked me to come in and bring it in."
And while you could chalk that up to different styles of preparation, Thompson claims that even the health inspector had to concede that this isn't chicken.

"A couple of the employees looked at it and they said this is not chicken you know so they are going to do an investigation. They said probably today or tomorrow and they will see what will come out of it, noh."
But by tomorrow morning - the verdict from the taco loving public will be in - and we suspect they'll be lining up as usual for their usual, "three dallaz, everything, no, Peppa, no cotton."
We reached out to the Public Health Department to find out whether Thompson's allegations were in fact reported. They confirm that they were but say that the health inspector dealing with the case is currently out of office.
