19-year-old Randy Pollard died on Saturday night when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed on the John Smith road.
Pollard's body was found early Sunday morning and identified by his aunt and other relatives. Not present at the scene however was the woman Pollard called mom, the grandmother who'd raised him and his 6 siblings since the untimely death of their mother.
7News spoke to her this evening about the terrible tragedy and she showed incredible strength as she told us about the accident that took her grandson's life.
Odessa Gibson, Randy's Grandmother

"I was waiting up for him because he didn't have a key because he had lost three keys. And I said. It was when a close friend., a little boy who I raised too came and woke us up after 6:00 and said Ms. Odessa he said Randy got caught in an accident. I said what? He said yes this morning he was probably coming because he had to put on his the vest and I said maybe he was hurrying to come and he caught in the accident. And they didn't tell me anything and then it was when I called my son in law Shawn who is a police that's when he gave me the news and I said hmph mm tell me something else, hmph that was a hmph."
"I don't feel, when my daughter died I didn't feel it that much because she was sick and we knew but this one really tore my heart in hmph, I don't know how many pieces but he's gone so you can't do anything. About it so. All that I just want is to get everything over with to give him a nice burial and make him go rest but. I know that it will be hard for us because one is gone from the pack and I always tell them I am not burying another person. You guys will bury me. I always used to joke with them that I wanted to see a great-grandchild before I died and they said well mom you know what that won't happen because you aren't going to leave us because they all look up to me and I try, their mom passed away and I treated them like she was still here."
Pollard had intended to sleep at his Grandmother's house. She was still waiting up for him when he died.
