But while the victim's family is calling it a murder - it is not quite clear if police are treating it as that. The official report refers to a "death investigation" - which indicates that police do not believe that all the elements for murder are there. We asked the police press officer about that:

Reporter:
"Why is it listed as a death investigation instead of a murder?"

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer

"Anybody that loses their life in Belize, we list it as a death investigation. And based on the conclusion and the findings of that conclusion of that investigation, we know what it would be classified as, right. So hopefully sometime before the end of today, we could wrap up that investigation and yes, we can classify that and do what we are directed to do at the conclusion."

Jules Vasquez:
"When I see death investigation, it indicates that there may have been a factor of self-defense that has to be investigated. Is it such a case?"

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer
"That is what I'm saying. At the end of the conclusion of that investigation, we will know exactly which direction we will take, whether or not it is murder or manslaughter, but in Belize City, the shooting at Antelope Street, that is a direct case of murder as that person, he was at home, when they called him out of his house and immediately he was fired upon. So the classification of investigation is different in each case."

An internal police report says 3 persons are wanted for murder.
