And while the crime spike of the last 5 days may suggest otherwise, the fact I that even with that killing spree - there are still fewer murders so far in 2022 than there were at this time in 2021.
So then why did the Prime Minister tell the United Nations and the world that homicides in Belize were up during his address on September 23rd?

"We will continue to do our best to keep the murder rate down. That's the main crime that I follow as the commissioner and I hold my officers to task to make sure that they do what needs to be done to keep the murder figures down. I go into the respective regions, I meet with the officers, I meet with the commanders and try to see how we can tweak our strategy all in an effort to try and reduce the number of murders across this country."
