25-year-old Adrian Mejia is out on bail after being accused of stealing over $11,000 worth of jewelry and cash from Ymanie's Pawn Shop while working there. Mejia was arraigned last Friday on seven counts of theft before a Senior Magistrate.
Reports are that between May 6th and August 12th of this year, she stole several pieces of jewelry belonging to 6 different persons, totaling $6,810, after which she stole $5,000, which was the property of another woman. According to the business owner, 43-year-old Melbourne Rice, a customer reported to him that he paid money to a woman to take out jewelry that had been previously pawned, but had not received the items. Rice told police that the only person in charge of pawning jewelry was the manager, Mejia. Rice then realized that Mejia had stolen a number of jewelry that other customers had been making payments for, again without receiving the items.
In court, Mejia pleaded not guilty and since there was no objection to bail, she was offered it in the sum of $5,000 plus one surety of the same, or two sureties of $2,500 each, which she was able to meet. She is due back in court on November 6th.
And there may be more charges forthcoming, as we are told that Mejia is accused of stealing thousands of dollars more worth of jewelry and cash from the pawn shop.
