2023 is the year for Weekend Warriors - the official list of Public and Bank Holidays for 2023 was released today and it has a record number of long weekends. Compared to the 4 three-day weekends in 2022, 2023 will have 7 three-day weekends and 2 four-day weekends which fall on Christmas and Easter.

The new year begins with New Year's Day falling on a Sunday and being observed on Monday, January second. Then, two weeks later, George Price Day falls on Sunday the 15th, so it will be observed on the 16th. National Heroes and Benefactors Day will be observed on Monday, 6th March. One month later, on 7th through 10 April, there will be the four day Easter observance. Labour Day falls on Monday, first May. And then, Emancipation Day is on Tuesday August first, but, to accommodate another long weekend, it will be observed on Monday, the 31st July.

And while many may be happy for one more long weekend, YaYA Marin Coleman of the UBAD Educational Foundation says that change of date is unacceptable:

And while we'll wait and see if the government responds to that complaint, we move on with the calendar. The Tenth of September also falls on a Sunday and the holiday will be observed on Monday the 11th. Independence Day will be observed on Thursday, the 21st. And in October, Indigenous Peoples' Resistance Day will be observed on Monday, October 9th, instead of Thursday, 12th October. Garifuna Settlement Day on the 19th also falls on a Sunday, so a holiday will be observed on Monday the 20th. And, finally, Christmas falls on a Monday, and Boxing Day on a Tuesday, creating a kind of four day weekend.
