Tonight, 43-year-old Denfield Lemoth, a resident of Raccoon Street in Belize City, is on remand. That's after he was taken to court for allegedly breaking into the compound of Canaan Seventh Day High School and stealing several hundred dollars in cash.
The allegations against him are that on Sunday, October 23rd, he broke into the school's compound and stole a cash pan with 381 dollars. Additionally, reports are that he had no idea he was being recorded on surveillance cameras inside the school.
The complainant, an employee at the school, reported that good fortune, he was monitoring the video feed of the surveillance cameras at his office using his cellular phone. That's when he saw in real time that someone had broken in and was roaming around his office. He called the police and rushed to the school. Reports are that when he arrived at his office, he saw that the deadbolt on the front door was broken. He went inside and realized that his cash pan was missing. When he turned around, he saw a man who resembled the person he saw on the surveillance video feed. That trespasser exited the office, hopped onto a bicycle, and darted out of the school compound.
Police arrested and charge Lemoth with the crime of burglary. He was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Sharon Frazer, and the police prosecutor in charge of the case made several objections to the court granting him bail. One of those reasons was that he had several convictions for previous crimes of dishonesty, including burglary, theft, and handling stolen goods.
Chief Magistrate agreed with the bail objections and remanded Lemoth to the Belize Central Prison. His next court date is scheduled for December 29th.
