And one opposition member who seems to have no utility to his party is Patrick Faber. Today, the party's nomination committee wrote to the 5 term representative telling him "thanks, but no thanks, your seat has been taken."

That's the culmination of weeks of uncertainty - which Faber tried to bring to an end on Saturday when he declared on his Facebook page that he had taken down all offending posts against his party.

But that was a day too late, because on Friday the party wrote to Ian Jones, the man who seeks to replace Faber as the UDP Collet candidate, telling him he would have an endorsement convention.

Sensing the curtain closing, last night, Faber supporter Alberto August wrote to the Chairman almost in a tone of contrition. He notes that both Ian Jones and Party Leader Shyne Barrow are on record saying "that Jones will immediately withdraw his application as soon as Faber complies with the National Party Council directive to remove all offensive Facebook posts. August adds, "In light of the commitment made by Ian Jones and the Party Leader we are requesting for the Hon. Patrick Faber, the current UDP Area Representative, to be declared as the Party's candidate for the Collet Constituency..." End quote.

Well, tonight, the answer is in, and it's a no-go. A letter from the nominations committee says, "we appreciate your effort to finally comply with the directive of the NPC...regrettably several weeks have passed since the denial of your application...consequently the committee has already concluded the vetting process...including Ian Jones who has been approved for an endorsement convention in the Collet Constituency." End quote.

So is that "curtains" for Faber's storied political career in the UDP? Let's just say, we wouldn't bet on it…like sands through the hourglass…so are the days of the UDP's lives....
