If a regular citizen gets caught with an unlicensed firearm - especially during Christmas week - he or she could expect to spend Christmas at Kolbe. But, one gang affiliated man from Belize City is at home tonight, reportedly after he made a deal with the cops to turn over more guns and get himself free.
7News has received credible reports which say that on Wednesday night, one of the specialized police units caught a man affiliated with one of the city gangs. He had an illegal firearm, but our reports say, he agreed to give police 4 other weapons to avoid being charged. He seems to have gone into his gang's arsenal and handed over two assault rifles plus a handgun with an adaption that turns it into an automatic weapon, along with another pistol. For this exchange, the gang affiliated man was arrested but faced no charge, while the cops get to add 5 choice weapons to their list of firearms which will likely be listed as "found property." We asked the commissioner for comment, but up to news time he had not answered.
