He killed his mother in law and his 5 year old son - and today, Samuel August junior was sentenced to 35 years imprisonment for it. But, outside the courthouse, he told us he's happy that at least he wasn't sentenced to life in prison:

Jules Vasquez
"You got some years."

Samuel August, Convicted
"A few of them. At least I didn't get life. Will look forward until I come out back eventually."

Jules Vasquez
"You regret what happened?"

Samuel August, Convicted
"Of course, I regretted what happened, my life ended."

In a fit of rage, August took a back Joe belonging to his work site, the City Council and ran it into the home of his ex-mother in law, Louise Young, killing her and his 5 year old son. He was charged with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder upon a 13 year old child he also tried to run over with the Backhoe but failed.

In court today, Justice Susan Lamb told August Sr., that he took two lives, and the sentence must rejected the crime hence why her started point for him was between 25 and 35 years. But she went with the Higher years because he took two lives she added. Justice Lamb deducted 1/3 for his guilty plea leaving him with 25 years. Then after she looked at the mitigating and aggravating factors of the murders, she told him that he is not eligible for parole until after serving 20 years. She deducted his years spent on remand from his 20 years before being eligible for parole, leaving him with 15 years 10 months 26 days before he is eligible for parole. August Sr., is presently serving a 7 year prison term for armed robbery which occurred from the same incident where he robbed a teacher of her vehicle before crashing into another Backhoe o the highway.
