One week ago, we broke the news that Minister of State, Ramon "Monchi" Cervantes was being shuffled from the Ministry of Immigration to the Ministry of Sustainable Development. While normally these moves happen when one's performance in a certain ministry is less than stellar, the prime minister explained that Minister Orlando Habet had a lot on his hands and could use the extra help from Cervantes. And yesterday, when the media spoke with Habet, he said he's welcoming Monchi's knowledge in business, and that he and the minister of state go way back.

Orlando Habet, Minister of Sustainable Development

"We have a little bit of history going back, Minister Cervantes is a friend, I recall some years ago I initiated one of the first political recalls with Elvin Penner and he was one of the first ministers, well, then he was just a candidate seeking election, like myself and he was out there, trying to gather those signatures to be able to affect that recall so we go back a little while. I think he's a real gentleman, someone that I can work with. I already had a first meeting with him, of course looking at where the minister will be established, his office, and how we can assist him to be able to assist us also. I think he bring a lot of experience, his business side of things and so where he will be posted assisting us in moving our policies and objectives forward, NEMO, the fire department, and also now the new department that has been put back over to environment which is that of solid waste management."

Emil Torres - he's a UDP hopeful in Belmopan - but now his party leader is supporting "the other guy" - he says that works even better for him.
