And while that Belmopan triple murder currently has the nation transfixed - back in June, it was the father's day killing of Benjamin Hyde that jolted public consciousness.
Well, 7 months later, the three men accused of killing him have gone free. Today, 21-year-old, Damion Saldano, 22 year old Shemaud Nunez, and 19-year-old, Azzane Domingo were all freed of the charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder. A memo from the DPP's office to the court said, quote, "In light of a further statement dated January 3, 2023, given by the Investigating Officer, she advised the court to withdraw the charges against the 3 accused men." Shemaud Nunez spoke to our court reporter after walking free:
So now, Benjamin Hyde Sr's murder is another unsolved murder. On June 19, 2022 he was riding on King Street after taking lunch for his special needs daughter when he was approached by a lone gunman who shot him multiple times. Hyde died on the spot. His son was considered the leader of a gang in the area - and his murder is believed to have been a casualty of a gang rivalry.
