For the first time in years, Belize does not have one of the top 10 murder rates in Latin America and the Caribbean. In 2022, our murder rate of 25.6 homicides per hundred thousand residents saw this country finish at number 11 in the region.

The annual survey done by the online regional news site named "Insight Crime" shows that in Latin America, Belize has the sixth highest murder rate. Venezuela is first with a rate of 40.4, then Honduras at 35.8 and then Columbia. Ecuador and Mexico.

And in the Caribbean, the murder rate in tiny Turks and Caicos in 2022 was highest at 77.6, followed by Jamaica at 52.9, then St Lucia and St Vincent, followed by Trinidad and Tobago, and the Bahamas.

So, with that top 10, 6 from the Caribbean and five from Latin America ahead of Belize's rate, Belize comes in at 11th or 12th regionally.
