Yesterday, we took you to Orange Walk where an elderly woman was left traumatized after being attacked by her grandson, and almost killed after he lit her house on fire. 61-year-old Bernadette Allen narrowly escaped with her life, but lost everything she owned. Her family and neighbor told us that her grandson has struggled with mental health issues for years now, but only ever acts violent towards her. She'd made several reports, fearing for her life, but nothing was ever done since her grandson, 27-year-old Barkley Allen, is clinically diagnosed.
Tonight, we can tell you that Barkley Allen was arrested earlier today and charged for arson, harm, and breach of protection order. He was cautioned after the charges were levied, but elected to remain silent.
His neighbor, Karen Banner, had expressed concern that he would be locked up in prison, when what he really needed was medical assistance.
