He has spent more than 10 years on remand for killing his mother, his sister and his step father. It is one of the most sensational and stunning triple murders in Belize's history, and tonight, Jared Ranguy could be two days away from a guilty plea.
In the early morning hours of November 25, 2012, the then 26 year old Ranguy murdered his mother, sister and Step-father inside their home on Marage Road, Ladyville. As the bodies of 51 year-old Karen Skeen Vellos, her husband, 72 year old Robert Earl Vellos Sr, and her daughter 32 year-old Teena Beth Skeen were taken away, it left the community horrified at an unspeakable, unimaginable crime.
Now, he is represented by attorney OJ Elrington and they appeared before Justice Ricardo O'Neil Sandcroft today asking for sentencing indications, which is a preview of what sentence he will face if he pleads guilty. Justice Sandcroft told Ranguy that he will be sentenced to 3 life imprisonment terms with the possibility of parole only after serving 40 years - 30 years in his case, since he has already spent 10 on remand.
Justice Sandcroft adjourned for Thursday, March 29, 2023 where Elrington will indicate to the court whether Ranguy will plead guilty and accept the sentence or fight it. If he rejects the plea, then the crown led by Porsha Staine-Ferguson will commence the triple murder trial against Ranguy.
Notably, a year ago, after serving 9 years on remand Ranguy was granted Supreme Court bail of $30,000 dollars which he could not meet.
