And hours later another minor would also lose his life.

16-Year-old Wellington Williams was running an errand for his aunt when he was cruelly cornered and shot to death.

It's an end that no one expected for the student and neighbourhood errand boy who many said had worked hard through high school to develop a better character.

But shadow of Southside violence stalked Wellington Willams and found him not far from his doorstep. Cherisse Halsall has the story.

16-year-old Wellington Williams was shot and killed on Saturday night sometime between 6:30 and 7:00 PM. His aunt sent him to run an errand which is when two men on bicycle pulled up on him, and fired 8 shots.

Still, the question is whether Wellington, a third former at SJC and a member of the Nazarene youth group, was the intended target or if he was simply targeted in a fatal case of mistaken identity.

Here's what his mother told us.

Cleta Novelo, Mother of the deceased
"I received the message, the message was only that to get to the hospital, they just shot your son Wellington. The information that I received was that he was doing a routine, or a regular errand."

"When truckers from PUMA are in his aunt asks him to take food to them. Upon reaching about 3 to four houses away from the area, everyone just heard pow, pow, pow. They were, my sister told me that, they were on the phone with the security at PUMA telling them that the food is on the way and the security heard the noise, they ended the call and everybody rushed out. When we saw his body it was multiple gunshots in his chest and hand and we saw it on his side here."

And what did he do to deserve such a cold and calculated end?

"Williams was a young man in high school. Many say a church boy. And yet he was so viciously targeted by two men on a bicycle who fired eight shots. Does the police have any idea why he was targeted?"

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Communications Officer

"A motive has been established, it's not, um, there as yet, but. I can tell you that investigators have been canvassing the area the, since Saturday. And um, we have some useful information that we believe could bring some form of closure to us."

It's a closure that this family desperately needs because right now Willam's mother says she can't rule out that he was the target.

Cleta Novelo, Mother of the deceased
"They are finding out different angles, different things, but I will not say, swearing for him because he is a teenager, typical of teenagers may be in something that doesn't come back and talk to their families and things like that, but I cannot swear for him because behind our backs no one knows what these teenagers are doing. In front of their faces, in front of everybody else, he is humble. well-mannerly child at school, around the neighbourhood, so what happened that day, if he was the intended target, if he was a mistaken identity or it was someone else they were targeting on the boulevard here - we don't know. We are only putting it in God's hands now that whoever has done it lives with themselves, God be with them and just give me time to be there."

Cleta Novelo says the loss of her youngest child is also the loss of her hopes and dreams for what he might have accomplished. Dreams of a would-be future fading away as Wellington sleeps in peace.

Cleta Novelo, Mother of the deceased
"He was like mom, when I finish 4th form I will ask my uncles in the states to help me on my way to the states with them. I said if you graduate and he said no mom I will graduate, so he was aspiring to graduate on time, but..."

Wellington Williams was a 3rd former at SJC - he is the third student from that school to be killed in one and a half years. In the wake of this latest murder, the school has offered counseling to those classmates that have been emotionally affected by his death.
