The Meighan brothers of Banak Street, Tyrone and Ellis - along with three associates are in jail tonight after their Supreme Court bail was revoked in the magistrates court today.
The Meighan's along with brothers, Jayir Flores, and Kenrick Gordon, as well as Jamal Brackett were all today arraigned on a charge of aggravated assault upon Meighan's neighbour, Elroy Jones.
According to the crown's case, Tyrone Meighan is alleged to have attacked Jones armed with a machete, while Flores is alleged to have attacked Jones whilst armed with a knife while the other 3 men were allegedly armed with both knives and machetes.
But, Jones who is their neighbor, desperately wanted to drop the case - and he went to both the police and the court to try to do so, but he was rejected. He shared his frustration and desperation with Jules Vasquez today:
Today in court all five men pleaded not guilty but upon hearing their were denied bail and remanded to prison, Flores, Gordon and Brackett jumped up in court and asked to change their pleas to guilty but their request was not honoured.
After a lengthy courtroom back and forth, bail was denied and they were all remanded into custody at the Belize Central Prison until June 22, 2023. Prosecutor Alifah Elrington strenuously objected to bail saying that the allegations against them amount to, quote, "Domestic Terrorism".
