And, while that mother at least was able to piece together her son's ailment and his involvement in distributing the tainted sweets, many others were left bewildered at what they were witnessing. And according to Eck, the confusion fueled the terror parents felt when they weren't able to understand what was taking place with their children's health. Here's more:

"The urine results as well confirm that it was marijuana so it's not a guessing game of what it was or what it could be. Initially when they arrived we didn't know what it was and that is what caused a, in my personal view a lot of heartache because when you walk into a room with 15 very ill kids and you aren't sure what you are dealing with it could become very devastating very quickly."

"Is there a precedent to any one event where this many kids were admitted at once and at least initially as you say parents have no idea what is happening to their children."

"Not, I know we have had mass casualties with what, if you could recall the bus incident with kids who had sustained trauma coming in but with an unknown, uh, toxicology agent ingested by kids, no I have been working there for 15 years and not while I have been there."
