And as the commissioner also said last night, Gamboa was convicted of assault after he and his brother got into a fight with another officer at the Dangriga Police Station.

Today, another members of his legal team, senior counsel Hubert Elrington spoke about that, saying his client was railroaded in what he interprets as some sort of personal vendetta:

Hubert Elrington, Attorney-At-Law

"But it seems to me that the thing was so minor and it arose out of circumstances that easily could have led to somebody being annoyed by what was happening to them and that the commissioner had the disciplinary powers to deal with it as a disciplinary matter, but he tried to get the magistrate to send them to prison for this matter and it was only when I, very strongly told the magistrate that he she did not have in front of her a matter that could justify a custodial sentence, that she decided to suspend the sentence, but it seems to me that they were using the magistrate court to settle some kind of dispute with 2 police officers that apparently the commissioner of police had a grievance against. I look at the facts of that case and it is shameful what the police did. As a person who has been practicing law and who has been in the legal system since 1967, I could not understand why this case was before the magistrate court. It was persecution rather than a prosecution."

Gamboa's attorneys plan to challenge his dismissal form the police department.
