In October of 22 it made major news when a 14 year old student's face was sliced open for no known reason. Khadijah Cruz was on her way to school when a mentally ill man appeared out of nowhere, slashed her across the cheek and ran off. The gash required 13 stitches.
After much public complaint by her father and grandmother - police traced down the perpetrator, 29 year old Daniel Burke. At the time, he was charged for wounding and told the court, quote, "I don't remember what happened." The Magistrate ordered a psychiatric evaluation.
Well, that was done and after almost 7 months on remand - Daniel Burke was declared unfit to stand trial. That happened on Wednesday in court when it was revealed that two Psychiatric Evaluations concluded that Burke is mentally unfit to stand trial." With that, the charge of wounding was dismissed and Burke was set free.
The doctor also said that Burke needs to remain under medication and continuous doctor check ups. He has been placed in charge of family members for continuous supervision and medical check ups."
