And yesterday evening there was yet another traffic accident in the Belize District, this one fatal. It took the life of 47-year-old Oscar Rodas, a Guatemalan native, resident of Tropical Park, who passed away after he was flung on impact from the pan of one of the colliding vehicles and landed on the pavement.

That fatal accident happened at 5:17 pm on the Burrell Boom Hattieville Road. A Ford pickup travelling from Hattieville to the Phillip Goldson Highway lost control and crashed into the driver's side of a Dodge pickup with a trailer attached coming from the opposite direction.

The Dodge was driven by 40-year-old Gilbert Griffith. His passengers were Joseph Segura and Abdul Myvett.

The Ford pick was driven by 25-year-old Marvin Cal who was accompanied by the now deceased Rodas, as well as 23-year-old Thomas Menensez, and 23-year-old Rodel Coye.

Both Menensez and Cal received non life threatening injuries. Segura and Myvett also complained of pain in their bodies. A urine sample was taken from Gillett who was served with a Notice of intended Prosecution.

Roddas's death was the fourth traffic fatality in the Belize District in 72 hours.
