And turning now to the West, a Toyota Hilux was carjacked in Cristo Rey Village this morning.
It's the sort of crime that was once quite common in the area but has slowed in recent years, that is until today when 5 men pulled off a terrifying home invasion and stole the pickup.
If history is any indication the bandits would have headed straight for the Guatemalan border. Here's more from ACP Romero.
ACP Hilberto Romero, OC, Eastern Division
"Ok, sometime around 11:00 AM San Ignacio police received a report of an aggravated burglary in Cristo Rey Village, they proceeded to the area where initial information is that stolen from a house by some male persons armed with a firearm was one Hilux vehicle along with a safe containing an undisclosed amount of cash and firearms, that is all the details we have at this time as investigators are still processing the scene. No one was injured as far as we know, no."
The black Hilux with license plate 32116 has not been recovered as of news time.
